FixBrowser

FixBrowser is a truly lightweight web browser created from scratch. It intentionally doesn't support JavaScript to make things faster and much less resource intensive. Instead it contains an updated set of scripts that fix and improve various websites.

FixProxy is a tool that allows to use the "backend" part of the browser (everything other than actual rendering/layouting) in a regular web browser. It can be used as-is to browse the web with privacy as it uses a whitelist approach for loading resources from other domains.

The browser is currently in Alpha stage, all the foundation blocks are there but needs more work. The FixProxy is more mature, I've been using it for multiple years as my primary means of browsing with good results.

Planned support for systems in the near future: Linux GTK3/4, MacOS 10.6+
There is a plan for supporting retro communities by providing compatibility with Windows 95/98/Me, support for mobiles (iOS/Android) is also planned.

Fundraising

The project needs your help. For this initial round €5000 will be needed to be raised. It will allow me to work on FixBrowser to make it usable for actual browsing and also implement some of the additional areas based on a vote. The work will take about a year, expecting major improvements within about 6 months.

Please select additional areas that you wish to be implemented the most (read FAQ section for more information):

integration of CEF - allow to use a full browser experience for selected websites or tabs
video playback support - support for playing videos using the <video> tag and YouTube
extensions support - a good support for extensions including ability to use native code
support for captchas and other gatekeepers - will be solved by creating a service funded by donations
improvements of FixProxy - if you prefer using FixProxy and would like to see it improved with more features
